Dear Friends,
At the 141st National Grange Convention
in Nevada the week of November 13th to 17th, voting delegates elected three
NH members to office! NH State Master Beth Merrill from
Antrim is the new Lady Assistant Steward, Past State Master John West was
re-elected Chaplain, and Past State Master Daniel Bascom was chosen Priest
Archon of the Assembly of Demeter. As far as I know, this is the first time
NH has held three such positions at the same time! No other state currently
shares such a record.
In addition, NH members Linda Lauer from Pine Grove
Grange in Bath and Marie Hall (our State Lecturer) from Hampton Falls Grange
performed brilliantly at the Evening of Excellence on November 15th. Linda,
the Northeast Talent Winner played her mountain dulcimer, and Marie,
Northeast "Sign-a-Song" competition champion, displayed her winning number.
The Youth Opening of the National Grange on Friday,
November 16th, included NH State Assistant Steward Matt Clark and his wife
Lynn as the Steward and Treasurer respectively.
As well as the officers from NH, your new line up of
National Grange officers is as follows:National Master Ed Luttrell (Past
Oregon Master and National Membership Director); Overseer Jimmy Gentry
(North Carolina Master and former National Board of Directors Chair);
Lecturer Judy Sherrod (Tennesee State Master); Steward Jay Pfeiffer (Texas
State Master); Assistant Steward Roger Bostwick (Kansas State Master);
Treasurer Joe Fryman (Nebraska State Master); Henrietta Keller (Past
Illinois State Master); Gatekeeper William Narvel (Delaware State Master);
Ceres Nancy Swainston (First Lady of the Michigan State Grange); Pomona
Judy McCann (former First Lady of the Oklahoma State Grange); Flora Linda Chase (First
Lady of the Massachusetts State Grange); and Board of Director Members Betsy
Huber (Pennsylvania State Master), Marty Billquist (Montana State Master),
Phil Prelli (Past Connecticut State Master), and Pete Pompper (New Jersey
State Master). High Priest of Demeter John Valentine (Past Indiana State
Master) was re-elected, and the new Priest Annalist of the Assembly of
Demeter is Bruce Croucher (Past New York State Master).
More news of the National Grange Convention will be
forthcoming in the next issue of the Granite State Granger when it is
published in early December.
